First Ferruccio Ritossa Career Award

It is with pleasure that we announce the awarding of the first Ferruccio Ritossa Career Award, given during the Sheffield Congress 2013.  The award was established this year by the CSSI Council in recognition of excellence in research by a colleague within 17 years of his or her Ph.D. or M.D. award date.  It is most appropriate that this award is named in honor of Professor Ferruccio Ritossa who made his pioneering discovery of the Drosophila heat shock response early in his career.

The winner receives a travel award to a CSSI Congress and has the opportunity to give an oral presentation during the Congress.  A certificate of recognition and a DVD presenting Ferruccio the scientist and sculptor is also given to the awardee. The winner of the first award is Dr. Mehdi Mollapour.  He presented work done in the laboratory of Dr. Len Neckers in the Urologic Oncology Branch, Center for Cancer Research, National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD USA.  His presentation was titled “Hsp90 N-domain SUMOylation regulates chaperone function.”
